Tiago Azevedo
New York City-based architect and painter Tiago Azevedo is a Portuguese artist whose work has been described as having a pop-surrealist style that bridges the boundaries between reality and fantasy, faith and meaning.
Born in the Azores Islands, Azevedo's work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as Paris, New York, London and Rome, earning recognition from audiences and critics alike.
Rooted in lowbrow art and shaped by his architectural precision, his oil paintings draw on religion, mythology, and fairy tales, infusing them with Baroque drama and a modern sensibility. This blend of classical technique and imaginative storytelling has become his signature — a lens through which he explores beauty, transformation, and the human condition.
His latest book, Scriptures, presents ten biblical stories, each reimagined by Azevedo — both in text and through his original paintings that illustrate the book. In this work, Azevedo revisits sacred narratives with a contemporary eye, offering personal reflections and intimate visual interpretations that merge the mystical and the human, inviting viewers to experience these timeless stories anew.
